It was so hard to actually pick only five.

Schtoffer: If I could have picked ten, I would have had Dawn of the Dead and possibly Suspiria, but I think The Exorcist was too mainstream to be considered cult. It was up for Oscars and everyone (horror fans or not) knew about it and saw it. Thanks!

*Most especially The Wicker Man is a cult film, and that is not just an opinion that is fact. And I totally agree, TX Chainsaw can only be considered cult. I tried your little experiment BSol - and no one I work with had even seen TCM. They'd heard of it, but certainly had absolutely NO inkling of what it was about besides the obviousness of the title. And no one had even heard of The Wicker Man, (or even its rancid remake). Most horror fans have heard of it, but not the general public, hence it developed a CULT following.

And Brandon: I stand by my choices, and I think you'll see I'm not alone.
Step back a bit, dude - you've still got things to learn.Christine Haddenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16932508146588027867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237781251652279105.post-13514812025287186032010-08-25T22:19:02.701-04:002010-08-25T22:19:02.701-04:00Great list! And ...Wonderful list, my dear! All great choices.

And if I could add my two cents to the controversy; For what it's worth, The Wicker Man is referred to as a cult film by everyone - from the "great" minds at Wikipedia, to the equally "great" minds at IMDB, and if that aint enough, I do believe that some guy named Roger Ebert (whoever he is), also calls it a cult film. As for Texas Chainsaw...when that movie came out people went nuts! They lined up around the block to see it ... it was like some sort of ...CULT!

Have a nice day.Pax Romanohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00951019083510283683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237781251652279105.post-11807711562535537782010-08-25T13:22:44.740-04:002010-08-25T13:22:44.740-04:00Greetings HBA Member,

When you really and truly define cult classic it's a film that is not generally accepted/mentioned in the mainstream audience. I will quote from my dear friend Brian Solomon and say that if you were to approach a person on the street and ask them what they think of TCM and you'll likely see this. You are so deep in the genre you forget this. And on a side note it's hilarious to hear this from the guy who created "Obscure Horror Month" which was the most subjective theme I have ever heard of in my life.ThePersonYouBenefitFromKnowinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17929798515521175046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237781251652279105.post-6120643329580933542010-08-25T07:01:33.473-04:002010-08-25T07:01:33.473-04:00Hello there - really enjoying your blog. With that in mind, I think The Wicker Man and TCM have to broad of an appeal to be considered cult classics.

I do agree 100% on Eraserhead though.
