Though I may have seen this before at one point or another, I had to make mention of it here on the blog. My cousin Mike recently made me aware that on You Tube you can catch Vincent Price reciting some of Poe's greatest works. After watching them a few times, they seem so familiar - I feel sure I may have owned the recordings on record album (yes, I'm that old) and was probably introduced to them by my grandfather, who appreciated Poe to highest degree.
No, the quality isn't the best - but in my opinion it gives it an even more nostalgic feel.
My favorite is below: The Tell Tale Heart.
Also great is The Cask of Amontillado.
Also: The Pit & The Pendulum.
There are other classics of Price as well, including his work in The Raven - and some are in multiple parts. But any fan of Price and Poe will get a kick out of these old clips. Worthy of a look, it really brings back memories.
Thank you SO much for posting these! There is something so disarmingly nostalgic about Price reading Poe - it is all strangely comforting in a way.
ReplyDeleteThey are great, aren't they? Really brings back memories.
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd appreciate them, Price and Poe fan that you are! :)
